Since its creation in 1986, the IHA has worked closely with aluminium manufacturers - in particular Rio Tinto France (RTF), previously Pechiney - to deal with questions relating to archives.
In this context, it has been led to receive, as a gift or on deposit, archives that are inactive or risk being lost.
The IHA became a Centre for the Conservation and Management of Archives in order to properly care for its collection.
In addition, in agreement with RTF, the IHA makes its reading room available to researchers wishing to consult the company's historical archives in France.
